Last April I returned to my Alma Mater, Texas A&M, to participate in an entrepreneurial-driven event, Shark Tank, based on the hit TV show. I enthusiastically served on a panel of judges as young Aggie entrepreneurs pitched their business model ideas to a host of businessmen in the audience.
Among the participants I met was a young entrepreneur, Brian Lamb, who stood out from the for-profit crowd for founding a non-profit ministry named Replenish. Hinged on its “buy one, give one” model, Replenish provides clean water for children in developing countries by donating a purification water device for every case of bottled water sold. As we visited, Brian and I discovered that Replenish and WaterStone are both built upon the foundational scripture: “He who believes in me, as the scriptures have said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38).
In addition to educating buyers about the global water crisis, Replenish has implemented clean water initiatives in 16 countries. Their current focus is in Kenya where they are nurturing relationships with a long term commitment to support clean water initiatives in Jesus’ name. Last October, Replenish coordinated clean water resources for 87 schools and for children’s homes in Homa Bay and outside of Nairobi.
The next phase of the program is to provide LifeStraws, portable personal water filters, for the next set of schools. This will be accomplished through the coordinated efforts of the local government and Christian education leaders. Replenish looks forward to participating in the donation ceremonies in Kenya this June following the distribution and training of the filters.
Brian’s passion for spreading the message of Christ through tangible means is evident. When asked what inspired him to start Replenish, Brian answered, “The quote, ‘Carpe Diem’ or ‘Seize the Day,’ reminds me to obediently respond and prioritize God’s will for my life today, not someday.”
I hope you are as blessed by his story as I was to hear it firsthand. Let’s keep Replenish in our prayers and on our radars as the Lord continues to increase their ripple effect throughout the nations.
