What if there was a different way to approach education? An approach focused on fulfilling Christ’s commission to make disciples in every nation. An approach that allows students to learn where they live so they can continue to serve where they are. An approach that is affordable to ensure that all who are called can be equipped. An approach that provides practical training alongside the theological. An approach that cultivates students to be spiritual leaders around the globe. This is the vision of Grace School of Theology – a seminary to the world.
Established in 2002, Grace School of Theology is a private, non-denominational institution of higher learning with a global headquarters in Houston, Texas. By leveraging technology, Grace is able to train students throughout the United States and in more than twenty countries, impacting lives from Cuba to Pakistan. The need is great, evidenced by the 100% enrollment growth Grace experienced in the last year alone.
However, the goal is not numerical but eternal. The effort is centered on affecting people rather than achieving prominence. The impact of Grace’s efforts is evident in the daily life and ministry of students like David Hill, Lead Pastor of Restoration Community Church. Inspired by Nehemiah's vision to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, Pastor Hill relocated his family to the poverty-stricken Third Ward in Houston, Texas, with a vision to rebuild lives on a solid spiritual foundation. After initially founding the church with a core team of only six members, the church is now thriving and seeing lives changed. Through Grace’s convenient course delivery method, ministers like Pastor Hill get the training they need without sacrificing their existing ministry.
“What drew me to Grace was its accessibility, affordability and small family atmosphere. Having been out of school for a while, seminary seemed pretty intimidating, but at Grace I began to see it as possible,” says Pastor Hill. "The education I am receiving at Grace pushes me to develop my ministry philosophy and theology from a strong foundation so I can effectively lead others.”
With other religions on the rise throughout the world, it is more important than ever for people to understand the foundational truths of God’s grace and Christ’s love. In a time when people often say “truth is relative,” Grace holds fast to the absolute truth of God’s Word, offering teaching that is grounded in a literal, historical, and grammatical interpretation of the Bible. Through teaching a clear and pure gospel, Grace students learn how to take the good news of God’s grace to people who desperately need to hear it.
Bishwa Karmacharya is a former Hindu priest-in-training with a heart to reach the people of Nepal. Both a businessman and a missionary, Bishwa has been tireless in his efforts to reach his countrymen with the love of Christ. During the course of his ministry, Bishwa met a pastor from Dallas, Texas, who told him about Grace School of Theology. He applied, became an online student, recently graduated with his Master of Ministry, and is now partnering with Grace to establish a teaching site in the area.
In a place where the number of gods and goddesses exceeds the total population of the country, Bishwa is faced with the challenge of communicating that there is only one true living God. Yet, inspired by 2 Timothy 3:16, Bishwa believes that the Word of God is powerful enough to change everything in his country. His dream is to educate others in order to spark spiritual revival among a people who have long lived in darkness. “That is why I like the solid teaching of Grace School of Theology,” Bishwa said. “I believe that if we can train people with solid biblical teaching, we can produce good leadership.”
Romans 10:14-15 says, “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent?” Grace believes the answer to these questions is found in equipping ministers like David and Bishwa in the United States and around the world. That’s why the seminary is both poised and committed to this vision – developing spiritual leaders in every nation who can teach others about the love of Christ, a love that can never be earned and can never be lost.
